Our team describes us as a place for the curious and the driven, and we like to do things a little differently; as a transformative global fintech we’re digital, nimble, connected and united in our vision to create a better way to trade.
We thrive on progress – for our clients and for ourselves. Our organisational culture is ever-evolving, vibrant, diverse, global and results focused.
You’ll find our 700+ team currently across 12 locations and 9 time zones.
The Role Our technology team thrives on inclusivity and collaboration, believing that diverse perspectives lead to great solutions. We foster a culture that champions individual growth, professional development, and work-life harmony. We're invested in your success and dedicated to supporting you every step of the way. We encourage our team to bring challenge thinking and fresh ideas to the table and our Agile approach empowers us to focus on outcomes. When we hire someone it's because they bring the skills, attitude and experience we're looking for....so we let you do what you're best at! Join us and be part of a community that's passionate about harnessing technology's potential to drive market leading solutions for our clients. Elevate your career in an environment where your ideas matter, your growth is nurtured, and your potential is limitless.
Our clients in more than 160 countries compare Pepperstone’s trading app, web trader and client area with the best consumer and fintech products they use every day. We want to set that bar higher. You’ll be the most senior hands-on engineer across our client-facing products, reporting directly to the CTO and providing senior technical leadership while remaining deeply hands-on.
As our Senior Principal Engineer - Platform Engineering, your key responsibilities include but may not be limited to:
Shape our platform technical direction: Define the multi-year architecture across AI, cloud, networking, identity and data. You’ll help engineers and leaders navigate complex technical trade-offs and align around a clear direction, while identifying scaling, cost and resilience risks before they become issues. Stay hands-on with our toughest engineering challenges: Work directly on the most critical parts of our platform, writing production code and infrastructure as code and prototyping new approaches. You’ll take the lead on complex challenges across low-latency connectivity, high-throughput streaming, large data and identity migrations and platform reliability. Lead and shape AI-native engineering: Help design the core of Pepperstone’s AI platform, from model access and agent orchestration to tool connections, retrieval, evaluation and runtime governance. You’ll use AI coding and agent tools in your day-to-day work while helping establish the patterns, workflows and guardrails that enable our engineers to do the same. Create a great developer experience: Design the paved roads that make it easier for our engineers to build and ship, spanning service templates, CI/CD, observability, secrets, infrastructure as code and the developer platform. You’ll treat the platform as a product, using adoption and developer experience to help shape what we build next. Grow our technical capability: Mentor senior and staff engineers and help build an inclusive engineering community across locations. You’ll also contribute to hiring senior engineering talent and help set the bar for technical interviews. Partner with our technology leaders: Act as a trusted technical advisor to the CTO and Technology leadership team, bringing an independent, hands-on perspective to complex technical decisions. You’ll help ensure security, resilience, data protection and regulatory requirements are considered from the outset. About you
You bring extensive experience designing and building large-scale distributed systems and platforms with proven Staff or Principal-level impact within a scaled technology, SaaS or fintech environment. You’re still deeply hands-on, writing production code and infrastructure as code, reviewing code and prototyping solutions. You bring deep expertise across two or three areas such as AI platforms, cloud infrastructure and Kubernetes, global networking, identity and authorisation or data and streaming platforms, with the ability to work credibly across the broader platform landscape. You have practical production experience with AI platforms, including LLM APIs, agent orchestration, retrieval, evaluation and AI observability, alongside AI-assisted engineering in your own day-to-day work. You understand how to build platforms as products, creating paved roads and developer experiences that are adopted and valued across multiple teams. You have experience running always-on, highly available systems and bring strong instincts around reliability, observability, performance and cost. You’ve successfully influenced technical direction across multiple teams without relying on direct authority, building trust through strong communication, technical judgement and collaboration. You’ve led significant migrations across live platforms and understand how to deliver change without disrupting the teams and clients that rely on them. You communicate complex technical decisions clearly to engineers, executives and non-technical stakeholders and enjoy mentoring senior and staff engineers. Experience with low-latency trading, market data, payments infrastructure, high-throughput streaming or identity and security at scale would be valuable but isn’t essential.
