Position Overview

Join a robust General Cardiology Team comprised of 14 APPs collaboratively providing 24/7 coverage at Carolinas Medical Center. The APP will staff new consults and after-hour admissions, order diagnostic and laboratory studies, and independently formulate assessments and plans while collaborating with Sanger’s broader team of specialized cardiologists.

Location & Setting:

Primary location: Atrium Health Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte, North Carolina

Care setting: Inpatient at a large quaternary care center, consult and admission service

Schedule & Call Expectations:

Schedule: Swing Shift- 4pm-3am

Call requirements: None

Flexibility details: Rotating weekends and holidays

FTE: Full-time; 40 hours per week

Scope of Practice/What You’ll Do:

Triage and perform new inpatient consults and admissions autonomously; evaluate, diagnose, and treat all cardiac conditions; order and facilitate diagnostic and laboratory studies; document care; recognize emergencies; and coordinate transfers.

Patient population: Emergency department, acute inpatients, and ICU. Telehealth and remote coverage of smaller regional facilities after midnight.

Diagnostic studies include echocardiograms, ECGs, stress tests, and appropriate laboratory studies; explain the necessity, preparation, risks, and benefits of scheduled diagnostic and therapeutic procedures to patients and families

Autonomy vs. collaboration: Independently formulate assessments and plans with the support of on-call cardiologists.

Team & Support Structure

Team composition: The General Cardiology APP team at CMC is comprised of 14 APPs working varying, overlapping shifts to ensure 24/7 coverage of all Cardiology patients at CMC. General Cardiology physicians staff the service for the week working collaboratively with the APPs to complete daily rounds, admissions, and discharges, and there is a separate on-call cardiology physician from each specialty afterhours each night.

Onboarding/training support: 3-9 months depending on level of experience.

Qualifications

Graduate of an accredited NP or PA program; current North Carolina NP or PA license; current prescriptive privileges and DEA license; current BLS and ACLS certification; at least one year of provider experience required

Preferred: Cardiology experience

Nurse Practitioners must hold Acute Care certification; Physician Assistants must hold current NCCPA certification; strong communication, organization, clinical assessment, interpretation, documentation, and emergency response skills required
