Job Description The Senior Accountant owns the day-to-day financial relationship for a portfolio of Matter families and their related entities. This client-facing role reviews the work of Staff Accountants, coordinates with outside legal, financial, and tax professionals, and escalates complex or sensitive matters to the Accounting Manager. It suits someone who catches errors before anyone else, thrives in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment, and wants to help develop a growing team.

Responsibilities

Serve as the primary point of contact for an assigned book of client families, handling routine bill-pay and reporting requests Review financial statements (P&L, balance sheet, net worth) and bookkeeping prepared by Staff Accountants before publication Review and, where needed, execute accounts payable and payroll Own budget-vs-actual analysis and contribute to budgeting and forecasting Participate in Matter's monthly peer-review and internal-audit process Coordinate with vendors, banks, accountants, attorneys, and financial advisors Mentor and guide Staff Accountants Prepare reports and follow-up items for client meetings

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in accounting or a related field; CPA (or progress toward it) preferred 4+ years of accounting experience, including 3+ years with QuickBooks Online and Bill.com Proven bookkeeping mastery and the ability to review and correct others' work Intermediate to advanced knowledge of partnership accounting, book vs. tax, and estate-planning mechanisms Understanding of what CPAs need for quarterly estimates and accurate tax returns Experience managing family finances, including budgeting, bill pay, and cash flow Confident client communicator who is detail-oriented, organized, and self-directed Proven discretion with sensitive and confidential information Proficiency with Microsoft Office and Mac-based hardware and software
