Overview The Cash Reconciliation Accountant is responsible for the accurate and timely reconciliation of the company's cash activity across bank accounts, general ledger accounts, and related transaction sources. This role will own complex and high-volume cash reconciliations, investigate and resolve unmatched transactions and aging items, prepare necessary journal entries, and support month-end close and audit requirements. The ideal candidate brings deep hands-on cash reconciliation experience, strong analytical judgment, and a disciplined approach to controls, documentation, and continuous process improvement.
This is a hybrid role, with four days in the office and one day working from home each week.
Responsibilities
Perform daily, weekly, and monthly reconciliations of high-volume bank and cash accounts to the general ledger and supporting transaction systems. Research and resolve unmatched or unidentified cash activity, including deposits in transit, outstanding checks, bank fees, transfers, chargebacks, returned payments, and timing differences. Prepare and post adjusting and correcting journal entries, maintain clear supporting documentation, and ensure reconciling items are cleared within established aging targets. Use Trintech Matcher to load data, monitor matching results, maintain reconciliation workflows, and support account certification. Support month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close by completing cash reconciliations on schedule and preparing rollforwards, exception reporting, and management support schedules. Partner with Treasury, Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, branch operations, Accounting, and IT to resolve discrepancies, strengthen controls, and respond to internal and external audit requests. Identify opportunities to improve matching rules, automate manual activities, standardize procedures, reduce aged reconciling items, and assist with other cash accounting duties as assigned.
Education and Experience
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field required. Seven or more years of hands-on, core cash reconciliation experience required. Experience reconciling high-volume, complex cash activity across multiple bank accounts, legal entities, locations, or transaction sources strongly preferred. Skills Required
Advanced cash reconciliation expertise with the ability to independently reconcile complex accounts and explain differences from source activity through the general ledger. Strong exception-resolution skills with experience researching bank activity, payment data, deposits, transfers, and other reconciling items through completion. Trintech experience preferred but not required, particularly experience using Matcher or a comparable automated reconciliation and matching platform. Advanced Excel and data analysis skills, including the ability to work efficiently with large data sets, lookups, pivot tables, and reconciliation schedules. Experience with ERP and banking systems; Workday Financials or a comparable enterprise financial system is preferred. Solid understanding of GAAP and internal controls as they apply to cash accounting, journal entries, account reconciliations, close, and audit support. Exceptional attention to detail and a consistent focus on completeness, accuracy, documentation, and timely resolution of aged items. Analytical and problem-solving abilities with the judgment to identify root causes, control gaps, and practical process improvements. Strong communication and collaboration skills for working effectively with Treasury, Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, branch operations, Accounting, IT, and auditors. Strong organization and deadline management with the ability to prioritize competing demands and consistently meet close and reconciliation deadlines. Professional discretion and a continuous-improvement mindset when handling sensitive financial information and improving established processes.
