Understand required mechanical properties, including yield strength, tensile strength, elongation, toughness, hardness, and related testing requirements. Understand steel mill platemaking and forming processes well enough to evaluate whether the proposed plate will perform properly during Dura-Bond’s pipe manufacturing operations. Review mill capabilities, chemistry ranges, mechanical property guarantees, heat treatment, rolling practices, and other manufacturing variables before approving a plate purchase. Review mill test reports and supporting technical documentation to verify that supplied plate meets the required specification. Work directly with steel mills and suppliers to resolve technical questions or specification deviations before material is purchased or released for production.
