The Material Coordinator supports Standard Nuclear's Nuclear Material Control & Accountability (NMC&A) Program across nuclear fuel manufacturing, laboratory, storage, material handling, and shipping/receiving activities. This role helps ensure nuclear material is accurately identified, measured, tracked, controlled, reconciled, and reported in accordance with approved procedures and applicable DOE, contractual, and facility requirements.
The position supports day-to-day accountability activities including material transactions, physical inventories, material movements, measurement data review, tamper-indicating device (TID) controls, discrepancy resolution, records, and reporting. The Material Coordinator is expected to complete the training and qualification needed to serve as a Material Balance Area Coordinator (MBAC) for one or more assigned Material Balance Areas (MBAs).
This role works closely with Operations, Quality, Security, Radiation Protection / ES&H, Shipping and Receiving, Engineering, and NMC&A leadership. It requires strong attention to detail, consistent recordkeeping, sound judgment, and the ability to recognize and appropriately escalate nuclear material discrepancies.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Nuclear Material Control & Accountability
Support MBAC activities for assigned Material Balance Areas and perform designated duties once qualified
Maintain accurate nuclear material location, quantity, form, status, and identification records within assigned MBAs
Verify receipts, transfers, movements, transactions, and inventory changes are properly authorized and documented
Assist with material balance calculations, inventory reconciliation, and review of discrepancies
Review nuclear material transactions and records for completeness and accuracy
Support periodic physical inventories of nuclear material within assigned MBAs
Verify material identification, location, quantity, container status, and TID information during inventories
Support inventory preparation, inventory freeze activities, counts, reconciliation, and closeout
Document and escalate discrepancies identified during inventories
Support verification, assessments, and audit activities associated with physical inventories
Material Movements & Transfers
Support and document nuclear material movements within and between MBAs
Verify material identity, quantity, container identification, source and destination, and required documentation
Coordinate with Operations, Shipping and Receiving, Security, Radiation Protection, and NMC&A personnel for material movements
Support documentation associated with off-site receipts and shipments
Follow applicable access-control, two-person, TID, and material-control requirements during material movements
Measurement & Data Integrity
Support nuclear material measurement and measurement-control activities
Review accountability measurement data for completeness and traceability
Work with technical personnel to address measurement anomalies, data-quality issues, and material-accounting discrepancies
Support maintenance of material accountability data, reports, and performance indicators
Maintain accurate electronic records using spreadsheets, databases, inventory tools, and material-accountability systems
Safeguards, TID & Material Controls
Apply, verify, and document tamper-indicating devices in accordance with approved procedures and qualification requirements
Maintain accurate records of TID application, removal, replacement, and status
Verify container integrity and required material-control measures during routine activities
Promptly report tampering, missing material, unauthorized movement, broken or unexpected TIDs, or other safeguards concerns
Follow established stop-work and escalation procedures when required controls, authorizations, or documentation are not in place
Program Support & Compliance
Perform assigned work in accordance with the Standard Nuclear NMC&A Program and implementing procedures
Support compliance with applicable DOE, contractual, and facility-specific NMC&A requirements
Participate in NMC&A assessments, audits, investigations, corrective actions, and continuous-improvement activities
Assist with NMC&A procedures, forms, work instructions, training materials, and qualification documents
Support required nuclear material reports and transactions, including NMMSS-related activities, as assigned
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Nuclear Engineering, Nuclear Technology, Science, Mathematics, or a related technical discipline preferred; associate degree, technical training, or equivalent relevant nuclear-industry experience may also be considered
Exposure to DOE Nuclear Material Control & Accountability programs or similar material-control programs preferred
Experience serving as an MBAC, MBA Custodian, nuclear material representative, material control specialist, or similar role is a plus
Familiarity with special nuclear material (SNM), enriched uranium, or nuclear fuel manufacturing preferred
Familiarity with Material Balance Areas, material balances, physical inventories, inventory differences, and nuclear material transaction records
Exposure to nuclear material measurement, measurement-control programs, TID programs, or controlled nuclear material movements preferred
Familiarity with DOE safeguards and security requirements, NMMSS, and/or other nuclear material accountability databases is a plus
Experience working within an NQA-1 or comparable nuclear quality assurance environment is a plus
Strong attention to detail, recordkeeping, and written communication skills, with the ability to identify and escalate discrepancies in material, measurements, documentation, and records
Comfort working with electronic records, spreadsheets, databases, and inventory or material-accountability systems
Ability to obtain and maintain all facility-specific training, qualification, access, and security requirements applicable to the position, including formal MBAC qualification before independently performing designated activities

This role is based on-site in Idaho Falls, ID and involves work across office, manufacturing, storage, shipping/receiving, and controlled nuclear fuel environments.
The position requires regular interaction with NMC&A, Operations, Quality, Security, Radiation Protection / ES&H, Shipping and Receiving, and Engineering teams. Work may require entry into controlled areas, use of required personal protective equipment, performance of material inventories in production and storage areas, and coordination of activities outside normal business hours during inventories, shipments, or other operational needs.
