Position Summary: Under the direction of the Manager, Varsity Sports, the Assistant Manager provides operational oversight for varsity league games, scheduling, staffing, and client experience. The incumbent supports league sports logistics and operations across all varsity sport groups, contributing to the effective delivery of competitions, compliance with league standards, and a positive experience for student‑athletes, officials, staff, and spectators.
Major Duties and Responsibilities
Support the planning, and delivery of league sports varsity games scheduling across all four varsity sport groups. Oversee practice scheduling for all four varsity sport groups, ensuring equitable access, operational efficiency, and alignment with competition demands. Oversee game day supervision including amuse staff. Support community outreach initiatives, including group ticket sales and engagement strategies designed to increase varsity game attendance and community connection. Manage and continuously improve the client experience for varsity league games, including spectators, visiting teams, officials, and stakeholders. Oversee operations of games and competitions, ensuring adherence to league regulations, safety standards, and McGill operational protocols. Identify operational risks and implement solutions to ensure seamless execution of varsity league games. Supervise a full-time varsity manager. Serve as the primary contact for assigned varsity league sports across Groups 1, 2, 3, and 4. Oversee ticketing operations for league‑run sports, including pricing structures, access management, reporting, and coordination with internal partners. Oversee ticketing budget. Supervise games for league‑run sports, including themed games and special league events. Function as primary liaison with league representatives, officials, and internal stakeholders for assigned sports. Provide direction to on‑site supervisors, sport officials, and event staff during league games and competitions. Ensure consistent application of service standards, branding, and league requirements across all supervised events.
Leadership, Collaboration & Continuous Improvement
Collaborate closely with Varsity Sports management, coaches, the A&R areas and external partners. Contribute to the planning for varsity league operations, attendance growth, and service excellence. Analyze operational data and post‑event feedback to inform improvements in scheduling, staffing, ticketing, and spectator experience. Mentor and support staff to promote professional development and operational consistency. Other Qualifying Skills and/or Abilities
Strong working knowledge of the Microsoft 365 required Strong technological aptitude, with the ability to rapidly learn new business platforms while producing accurate work. Strong sport-event management, partner-coordination and problem-solving experience. Knowledge of university sport associations, including the RSEQ and U SPORTS is required. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills. Strong organizational, planning and time-management skills. High attention to detail and ability to multi-task. Demonstrated ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team. Availability to work evenings and weekends, as required. Bilingual in French and English required.
