Your Future Evolves Here
Evolent partners with health plans and providers to achieve better outcomes for people with most complex and costly health conditions. Working across specialties and primary care, we seek to connect the pieces of fragmented health care system and ensure people get the same level of care and compassion we would want for our loved ones.
Evolent employees enjoy work/life balance, the flexibility to suit their work to their lives, and autonomy they need to get things done. We believe that people do their best work when they're supported to live their best lives, and when they feel welcome to bring their whole selves to work. That's one reason why diversity and inclusion are core to our business.
Join Evolent for the mission. Stay for the culture.
What You’ll Be Doing:
Why This Role Matters Evolent is transforming how it builds and operates infrastructure under a refreshed Platform Engineering & Operations operating model, grounded in four principles: Architecture First, Automation by Default, Reliability is a Shared Responsibility and Golden Paths Over Custom Solutions. You will turn approved designs into provisioned, automated, and documented platforms, and you will do it transparently, through formal handoffs, Office Hours reviews, and documentation your peers can actually rely on.
Agentic AI: Platform Engineering is moving toward agentic AI as a standard part of how the organization works. As agentic AI transforms the way we work, we expect our engineers to be at the forefront of that change, designing and building intelligent solutions rather than simply consuming them. This builder mentality is a core attribute we assess from the first conversation.
What You'll Be Doing Provision and change infrastructure exclusively as code, so that every environment is reproducible, reviewable, and free of manual drift. Reverse engineer the applications and infrastructure you inherit: trace dependencies, integrations, and data flows end to end until you can explain how a system actually works. Design and build agentic AI solutions for platform, delivery, and operations work: identify the toil worth automating, then build, evaluate, and harden the agent that removes it. Build security and compliance into the delivery path: least-privilege access, secrets handling, policy-as-code guardrails, and audit evidence produced by design rather than assembled under deadline. Engineer and manage observability solutions using OpenTelemetry to monitor and trace application performance. Deploy and manage containerization solutions using platforms such as Docker and Kubernetes, with a strong focus on Azure Kubernetes Service (AKS) and Azure Container Apps (ACA). Monitor container health and performance, troubleshoot issues, and implement lasting remediation. Participate in Root Cause Analysis and address the actual root cause, so the same problem does not recur. Minimum Requirements Demonstrates humility, openness to feedback, and a team-first mindset. Comfortable with a high level of transparency, surfacing risks and mistakes early. Ability to create high-quality technical diagrams and documentation. Deep knowledge of agentic AI concepts: agents and tool use, orchestration, context and retrieval, evaluation, guardrails, and the limits of each. Knowledge of agentic AI concepts is an important component of the role and supports the organization's strategic direction Excellent written and verbal English communication skills with the ability to communicate effectively with technical and business stakeholders. Demonstrated ability to reverse engineer application architecture: take an unfamiliar application and the infrastructure under it, trace its components, dependencies, and data flows. Working fluency in Infrastructure as Code and Configuration as Code. Terraform and Ansible are Evolent's standard tooling. 3+ years of hands-on Azure and 5+ years of overall cloud-native experience. Strong understanding of OpenTelemetry and demonstrated experience implementing observability solutions across traces, metrics, and logs. Demonstrated motivation to develop coding skills and proficiency in multiple programming languages. Expertise in at least one of these scripting or configuration languages: PowerShell, YAML, HCL, or Python. Experience leveraging agile methodology, e.g. Scrumban, to manage project work. Domain Expertise - Site Reliability Engineering Observability depth: strong working knowledge of OpenTelemetry across traces, metrics, and logs, and expertise in multiple APM and monitoring tools (e.g. Prometheus, Elastic, Dynatrace, and DataDog). You should be able to explain where each one fits and where each one falls down. Proven experience deploying and managing container orchestration platforms, Kubernetes and Docker, with a strong focus on Azure Kubernetes Service (AKS) and Azure Container Apps (ACA), including monitoring container health and keeping containerized workloads secure in production. Deep understanding of deployment methodologies for Kubernetes, preferably ArgoCD and Helm, and experience with GitHub Actions or Jenkins for build and release automation. Working experience with other Azure services such as Azure Functions, Azure Logic Apps, and Azure Service Fabric, and familiarity with internal developer platforms - Evolent's is built on Backstage. Production operations on healthcare workloads under HIPAA and SOC 2: incident and problem management, Root Cause Analysis that genuinely closes the cause, and disaster recovery readiness. Preferred Requirements: Experience applying agentic AI concepts, whether through professional experience, personal projects, academic work, or other relevant initiatives: what it does, the choices you made, what failed, and what you would change. Proficiency in a scripting or programming language used for automation and tooling, such as Python, Go, PowerShell, or Bash. Experience in a regulated environment, for example healthcare and HIPAA, SOC 2, or similar. Hands-on experience instrumenting a production system with OpenTelemetry end to end, including the decisions you made about sampling, cardinality, and cost. Experience running production workloads at scale on Azure Kubernetes Service (AKS) or Azure Container Apps (ACA). Preferred Certifications Relevant Azure certifications (e.g AZ-104, AZ-400, or AZ-305) or the equivalent AWS certifications. HashiCorp Terraform Associate or equivalent. Certified Kubernetes Administrator (CKA) or Certified Kubernetes Application Developer (CKAD) or equivalent Vendor observability certification from Dynatrace, Datadog, Elastic, or Grafana Academic Qualification Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
