About the job
AtmosZero · Loveland, Colorado (onsite) · Full-time · Engineer III
Reports to: VP, Engineering
Why this role exists
Industrial steam runs manufacturing, and most of it still comes from combustion-based boilers. AtmosZero is developing Boiler 2.0, a modular industrial heat pump that produces steam from electricity and air. We are packaging first-of-a-kind 1 MW hardware into an integrated system that can be fabricated, shipped, installed, serviced, and built again. This role owns the mechanical integration details that turn individual components into a repeatable product.
What you will do
Own mechanical integration and packaging of the complete 1 MW system, including equipment layouts, skids, process piping, structures, supports, enclosures, lifting, shipping, installation, and service access. Integrate heat exchangers, compressors, pumps, valves, electrical hardware, controls hardware, and supporting equipment into controlled system layouts. Develop and release 3D assemblies, routing, drawings, BOMs, interface definitions, and supplier-ready design packages. Support suppliers and fabricators through design review, fabrication, receiving, assembly, integration, and test. Resolve packaging and build issues with technicians, manufacturing, supply chain, process, controls, and test teams; drive ECOs and drawing updates to closure. Apply DFMA, modularization, packaging optimization, component standardization, and configurable-design methods. Translate Unit 1 build and test learning into repeatable designs for Unit 2 and later systems. Support lifting, transport, installation, commissioning, and field-service planning for packaged equipment.
What success looks like in your first year
In the first 90 days, understand the full package architecture and own a defined system-integration work package. By six months, release layouts and drawings, resolve build issues in hardware, and close the resulting ECOs. By twelve months, deliver a validated packaging or modularization improvement incorporated into Unit 2 or a later production design. What we need from you
Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or a related discipline, with experience appropriate to the level at which you are hired. Strong fundamentals in equipment layout, piping, structures, supports, tolerances, thermal growth, load paths, lifting, and serviceability. Experience integrating multidisciplinary industrial hardware from layout through detailed design, release, fabrication, assembly, and test. Experience developing large 3D assemblies and production-quality drawings in SolidWorks or a comparable CAD/PDM environment. Ability to create and review specifications, BOMs, drawings, interface definitions, calculations, ECOs, and design-review records. Ability to work directly with fabricators, suppliers, technicians, and cross-functional engineering teams in a fast-moving hardware environment. What would help
Experience with process skids, packaged industrial equipment, HVAC or refrigeration equipment, industrial heat pumps, pressure equipment, process piping, or comparable integrated hardware. Deep SolidWorks experience with large assemblies, configurations, weldments, routing, drawings, BOMs, and PDM-controlled release. Working knowledge of ASME B31 piping requirements, structural design, welding, fabrication, GD&T, or piping-stress analysis. Experience with DFMA, product modularization, configurable designs, value engineering, new-product introduction, or field installation. Compensation and benefits
Base salary range: $110,000 - $165,000/year
Equity: Stock option grant
Benefits: Medical, dental, and vision coverage; retirement plan; paid time off and holidays; parental leave.
