About the job

Job Description

Title: Senior Specialist, Data Science (AI/ML Imaging & Omics), Quantitative Biosciences

At our company, we are committed to becoming the premier, research-intensive biopharmaceutical company and are dedicated to providing leading innovations and solutions for today and the future.

Our Research Scientists serve as the driving force behind our innovations. We identify and target mechanisms or pathways involved in the disease process and invent novel treatments and therapeutics to address unmet medical needs. This exceptionally complex task represents one of the most multidisciplinary endeavours in the field.

INNOVATION also thrives at the intersection of multiple disciplines! In this role as a Senior Specialist, Data Science (AI/ML Imaging & Omics), you will have the opportunity to work at that intersection of disciplines to shape innovation in biomarker sciences, influence pipeline decisions, and contribute to a research-driven environment with industry-leading expertise. This role is within our Tissue Biomarkers & Analytics team at our state-of-the-art research laboratory in Biopolis, Singapore.

If you are PASSIONATE about applying your expertise to address critical unmet needs and accelerate the discovery and development of new drugs, we invite you to join us in pioneering the future of biomarker research for the biopharmaceutical industry.

WHAT YOU CAN EXPECT …

Opportunity to drive innovation in AI/ML imaging and omics analytics at the intersection of multiple disciplines by integrating medical and disease biology, imaging and omics technologies, big data and biobanks. Opportunities for engaging your innovative and creative mind to experiment with new ideas and approaches. Collaboration with a team committed to leveraging AI/ML for drug discovery and development. A supportive working environment that fosters career growth and continuous learning.

WHAT YOU WILL DO …

Your responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

Develop AI/ML and image analysis techniques to analyse multimodal medical images (e.g., MRI, CT, PET and OCT) and integrate imaging with omics and clinical data, with the goal of providing novel insights into disease biology and discovering, validating and deploying novel biomarker solutions. Design, develop and validate AI-enabled medical imaging analytics pipelines, including methods for image segmentation, registration, feature extraction and the generation of quantitative imaging measures or parametric maps. You will apply these approaches to large-scale imaging datasets, including biobanks and clinical cohorts, to derive robust and translatable imaging biomarkers. Formulate appropriate hypotheses, identify and execute appropriate analytical methodologies, and interpret AI/ML findings to elucidate disease pathophysiology, discover novel biomarkers, and support target identification, target validation and drug discovery and development. You will also contribute to study design based on analytical results. Develop and apply approaches to integrate imaging-derived phenotypes with molecular, omics and clinical data, enabling deeper biological interpretation and identification of relationships between quantitative imaging features, disease biology and treatment response. Keep up to date with emerging AI/ML approaches for medical imaging and multimodal data analytics, and identify appropriate internal and external datasets to evaluate their utility across disease applications. As a result of these initiatives, you will play a crucial role within the team that leverages imaging, omics, big data and biobanks together with AI/ML to support both reverse and forward translation. Your efforts will contribute to transforming insights from medical and disease biology into biomarker solutions that enable decision-making in our drug development programmes. In this role, you will collaborate with internal stakeholders and external research institutes, CROs, vendors or partners. You will communicate and present AI/ML solutions and results to a variety of stakeholders, including project teams and external partners. You will also author project proposals, publications, technical reports and documentation as part of your responsibilities. Working at the cutting edge of AI/ML technology for pharmaceutical drug discovery and development offers you the opportunity to present and publish your findings, contributing fresh perspectives and diverse viewpoints that can shape the future of the industry. WHAT YOU MUST HAVE …

A PhD in Computer Science, Data Science, Electrical/Biomedical Engineering, Biomedical Sciences, Computational Biology, Physics, or a related discipline. Alternatively, a master’s or bachelor’s degree in a relevant field with 5+ years of relevant research experience in AI/ML, medical image analysis or biomedical data science. A strong background in computer vision, machine learning and deep learning, with experience applying relevant methods and architectures to medical imaging and/or biomedical data. Significant hands-on programming experience in Python and/or R, together with practical experience using frameworks such as ITK, SITK, OpenCV, scikit-learn, PyTorch or TensorFlow. Strong hands-on experience in medical image analysis and the development of AI/ML-based imaging pipelines, including techniques such as image segmentation, registration, feature extraction and quantitative image analysis across modalities such as MRI, CT, PET and/or OCT. Experience working with large-scale imaging datasets, including biobanks and/or clinical cohorts, and developing scalable analytical approaches to derive and validate quantitative imaging biomarkers. Experience or a strong interest in integrating imaging with molecular, omics and clinical data to investigate disease biology and develop translational biomarker solutions.· Familiarity with scalable computing and ML engineering environments, such as AWS, HPC, Google Cloud, Azure, Databricks or equivalent platforms, would be advantageous. Knowledge of cardiometabolic, immunological, neurological and/or ophthalmological disease biology would be advantageous. More importantly, you should demonstrate a strong interest in understanding disease biology and applying quantitative approaches to drug discovery and development. A self-motivated, collaborative and learning-oriented mindset, with the ability to work independently as well as in a highly collaborative, cross-functional environment and manage multiple priorities within challenging timelines. Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to communicate technical approaches, analytical results and biological interpretation to multidisciplinary audiences.
