About the job

Role Description The AI Engineer is an entry-level, generalist software role on our small AI team. You'll build and ship real software across our stack, with language models and automation woven through much of it, starting with smaller changes to learn how everything fits together and growing into owning features of your own. The role is ideal for a recent graduate who learns quickly, is genuinely curious about where AI is heading, and would rather ask a question than stay stuck.

Responsibilities

Building & Shipping Software: Write and ship features across our products, from backend services in Python to web apps in React and Next.js, and get them running on AWS. Take on smaller changes early to learn the codebase, then grow into owning work end to end. Applied AI & Automation: Put language models (Claude, Gemini) and automation tooling to work inside real healthcare workflows. Move past clean demos and handle the messy reality of production data and documents. Reliability & Quality: Track down bugs, improve reliability, and learn how production systems behave when they meet real-world inputs and volume. Collaboration & Problem Definition: Partner with the team, and sometimes with people across the business, to find where work gets stuck and figure out what's actually worth building. You'll help shape the work, not just take a ticket and run. Qualifications

Describe the experience and attributes of the ideal candidate A recent bachelor's or master's graduate in computer science, engineering, data, or a related field (or equivalent project/internship experience). A technical foundation: you've written code in at least one language (Python is a plus) and you're comfortable with everyday developer tools like Git and GitHub. Some familiarity with a cloud platform such as AWS helps. Hands-on experience with AI tools such as Claude, ChatGPT, Gemini, or Cursor, whether from coursework, an internship, or your own projects, and the drive to keep learning. This field moves fast, and so do we. Strong critical thinking: you can break a messy problem into pieces, tell whether an AI's answer is actually right, and keep steering until it is. Clear written and verbal communication, including explaining your thinking well enough that a teammate or an AI can act on it, and a collaborative, ownership-minded attitude. Comfort working in a fast-paced, evolving environment where priorities shift and process is still being built. Bonus experience (none required, any is a plus)

Experience building real projects with agentic coding tools (e.g., Claude Code, Cursor, Codex) Knack for process and systems optimization, like spotting where work gets stuck and designing a better way (from coursework, internships, or an engineering background) A real eye for frontend and design (React, Next.js, accessibility); a background in statistics, machine learning, or data science (especially with healthcare or actuarial data); data-engineering experience (SQL, pipelines, dbt/Athena/Iceberg) Familiarity with the healthcare, insurance, or employee-benefits domain.
