Position Description The Business Operations & Intelligence Analyst is a firmwide role at the center of Star Mountain's data infrastructure. The role supports the entire firm in its data operations work - keeping the systems of record accurate, current, and decision-ready as the firm scales toward $10 billion+ in assets under management. Each analyst carries a primary functional focus lane (initial lanes: relationship activation / capital formation; deal origination support) while being trained across the full platform.
Primary responsibility is hands-on updating of data in the firm's CRM and ERP systems - principally GPEX- with the goal of keeping data up to date, accurate, and real-time: record creation, updating, deduplication, standardization, enrichment, and synchronization-error resolution
Execute the firmwide data-request intake protocol: triage-reviewed requests, documented pull methods, domain SME review, defined turnaround standards, and full audit trail on every response
Support relationship activation across the firm: MD relationship-list builds, executive travel and geography optimization against LP and deal-flow data, catch-up point surfacing, meeting and interaction logging, contact-card accuracy, tear-sheet fact checking, and conference and target-list data builds
Maintain and produce recurring firm reports and trackers: weekly activity and pipeline reports, KPI dashboards, invoice trackers, portfolio reporting inputs, and executive rundown data
Absorb and industrialize data workstreams transitioning from the firm's offshore administrative vendor - documenting each process, tightening quality standards, and identifying automation opportunities
Execute scoped data projects: data-cleaning campaigns, scraping builds, training-data preparation for the firm's AI initiatives, and index and comparable-set builds
Operate as a technology enabler: trained on the firm's AI tooling (Claude connectors and skills) against the systems of record, automating recurring workflows and training colleagues in turn
Add value to other aspects of Star Mountain's overall business as an aligned partner assisting in building a leading private investment business
Qualifications
Technical data background required: degree or demonstrated proficiency in data science, data analytics, information systems, or a comparable quantitative field - with working command of SQL and structured data manipulation; Python or comparable scripting a strong plus
1–3 years of full-time relevant experience in data operations, business analytics, CRM/ERP administration, or financial services operations, or an equivalent internship track; recent graduates with strong technical data credentials encouraged to apply
Finance fluency sufficient to see the connections: understanding of how a private investment firm operates - funds, investors, deals, portfolio companies - without requiring advanced investment training
Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Excel; working familiarity with CRM / ERP platforms; exposure to Power BI or comparable reporting tools a plus
Exceptional attention to detail - the role's core product is data the firm's leadership can trust without re-checking
Strong organizational skills with proven ability to manage recurring deliverables, competing priorities, and defined turnaround standards
Clear written and verbal communication; comfort interacting with senior executives and documenting processes
Discretion and sound judgment handling confidential executive, investor, and portfolio information
Team player with a positive, solutions-based attitude and a strong work ethic; strong culture carrier
Compensation
