About the job
Job Description Summary The energy transition runs on software, and GridOS Connect is one of the products at the centre of it. As Engineering Manager for the GridOS Connect team in Oslo, you will lead a team of around 10–11 backend and platform engineers delivering one of GE Vernova's flagship grid software products.
Your primary focus is enabling your team: building the conditions for high performance, supporting career growth, and ensuring the team delivers with quality and predictability on a regular release cadence.
This is a people-first leadership role that sits at the intersection of engineering, product, and delivery. You will work closely with the Product Architect, Product Owner, and senior technical leads, and as the organisation evolves, you will grow into broader product responsibilities over time.
Job Description Key Responsibilities Lead and develop your team - line manage approximately 10–11 engineers across backend and platform disciplines; run regular one-to-ones, set clear growth goals, support promotions and skill development, and foster a psychologically safe, high-performing team culture aligned with GE Vernova values. Own hiring, performance, and onboarding - lead hiring interviews for the Connect team, design effective onboarding for new joiners, conduct performance reviews in line with HR guidance, and manage performance constructively where needed. Drive delivery and release confidence - ensure the team delivers consistently on the two-sprint monthly release cadence; facilitate cross-team coordination based on feature scope or technical span; identify and resolve dependencies proactively and remove organisational blockers before they become delivery risks. Manage capacity and risk - track team capacity, plan for leave and absence impacts, flag resource risks early, and adapt planning as AI (Artificial Intelligence)-assisted development tools change productivity baselines across the team. Serve as the interface between engineering and product - work closely with the Product Owner and Product Manager on roadmap alignment and backlog prioritisation; represent the Connect team to service delivery, other site engineering managers, and product leadership; and be capable of driving product direction conversations independently when product ownership capacity is limited. Champion engineering excellence - promote adoption of AI-assisted development tooling within the team and partner with senior technical leads and the Product Architect on architectural decisions that affect the Connect product portfolio. About You You are an engineering leader who understands that your impact is measured through the people you enable, not the code you write. You bring enough technical depth to hold credible conversations with senior engineers, combined with the delivery discipline to keep a complex product team moving forward.
Required Relevant experience in software engineering - ideally in distributed systems, integration platforms, or enterprise SaaS (Software as a Service) environments; a formal degree in a relevant engineering or technical discipline is advantageous, but we are most interested in your total experience and professional achievements. Relevant people management or team lead experience - formal or informal - with demonstrated ownership of team outcomes. Solid engineering foundation, sufficient to engage credibly with senior engineers on technical decisions without being a bottleneck. Delivery management experience - familiarity with Agile/Scrum, sprint planning, release management, and backlog management. Clear communication skills across engineering, product, and business stakeholder groups. Comfort working cross-functionally with Product Owners, Architects, QA (Quality Assurance), SRE (Site Reliability Engineering), and external Product Managers. Preferred Experience with integration platforms, messaging systems, or data flow products. Product management or product ownership capability - ability to translate business needs into engineering priorities independently. Familiarity with cloud-native, Kubernetes-based architectures and modern SRE practices. Experience working in a multi-site, globally distributed engineering organisation. Background in energy, utilities, or grid technology domains. Exposure to AI-assisted development tools and their implications for engineering team capacity planning. Why GE Vernova GE Vernova employees rise to the challenge of building a world that works. In Oslo, you will be part of a technically engaged, autonomous engineering team working on technology that directly supports the global energy transition. We provide varied, competitive benefits designed to reward high performers and help you manage your personal and family needs. GE Vernova invests in your continued on-the-job learning and development, and provides a clear path for career growth within a global organisation.
